Spring Superlatives!

Happy Spring Everyone!

One easy way to make any design ‘Zenspired’, is to incorporate inspiring words. In celebration of the first day of Spring, I thought I’d share my ‘word-flowers’, and show you how you can create your own.

I usually start with a line drawing of the flower, and then add an uplifting word inside each petal. I put shorter words in the smaller petals, and longer words in the larger ones. Some word flowers have a theme; others include whatever uplifting words will fit in the space. You can see a few examples on this page from one of my morning journals:

I especially enjoyed picking uplifting words which begin with ‘s’ to create this flower for my daughter. Since Sam is a singer/songwriter, I wanted the word SING to stand out, so I lettered it in capitals, and placed it on the right side of the flower so it is easy to read.

Sometimes, rather than put the words into the petals, I put them into ‘bricks’. Here is a design where I alternate blank rainbow flowers with inspirational word bricks.

I made this card for those who would like to create their own word-flower:

Since Spring reminds me of pastels, I used a bright pastel palette to create a birthday card for my new friend, Pat Maier, who will be celebrating her birthday on Friday. Pat is a gifted Bible Journaler and teacher, and I was delighted to include two of her beautiful pieces in the gallery section of my new book. This Saturday, March 25th, I’ll be teaching a Koi Coloring Brush workshop for the Ocala Calligraphy Guild. I understand that there are a few spots left, so if you’ll be in the Ocala area this weekend and would like to attend, click here for the workshop details. Color and creativity enthusiasts Alison Clement and Genna Wangsness will be there– hope other members of the Zenspirations community will be able to attend.

Stay Zenspired,

Joanne

  2. Not long again you sold Zenspiration cards at Michael’s, along with other items. I bought a every design of your cards. I have given them out to friends after I’ve colored them for various reasons. I just want you to know they bring me such pleasure and enjoyment coloring them. They then bring such joy to the people to whom I give them. It is just a double blessing! Wanted you to know and to say Thank you!!!!!
