Birthday Blessings

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Hi Everyone,

I feel SO loved! The truly meaningful messages and beautiful art you shared really made my birthday extra-special this year. THANK YOU!!!

zenspirations_by_joanne_fink_birthday_thanks

If you would like to see some of the gorgeous cards I received, most of them can be found in the Zenspirations® Create, Color, Pattern, Play Facebook Group, or on my personal Facebook page. I haven’t had a chance to read all of them yet… but the ones I’ve seen are super special. Thank you again!

I wish I could say that in addition to celebrating my birthday, I am also celebrating having finished my new book, Complete Guide to Bible Journaling: Creative Techniques to Express Your Faith. However my publisher decided at the last minute to add 12 extra pages of art to the bonus section, and I’m still trying to get them done. It is REALLY exciting though, because the bonus section will add amazing value to the book– 8 pages of full-color stickers (which include a complete set of tabs with the books of the Bible!), 8 pages of my illustrations and lettering printed on vellum, and 8 coloring pages, which can be perforated. I’m trying to design the pages where most of the art is only two inches wide, so it will fit into the margins of a journaling bible.

The vellum and sticker pages are already at the printers, and I am wondering what would be most useful to put on the coloring pages. The photo below shows the three different types of pages I’ve been working on. The one on the left features words to color, the one on the right features icons relating to light, and the one in the center has variations of a particular item (flower, bird, sun, star, heart, etc.) to give ideas of different ways you could draw the icon.

I’ll pick a name at random from everyone who leaves a comment on this week’s blog answering these questions. Thanks, in advance, for sharing your thoughts!

I also want to thank everyone who shared their thoughts on how to improve the Legacy poster that my daughter wants to use as one of her Kickstarter rewards. Here’s the final design:

We also created a ‘Listen’ poster, which uses the same art as the CD cover:

Both prints are among the rewards Sam is offering to those who support her Kickstarter. She will be in touch with those of you who expressed interest when it launches.

Before closing tonight, I wanted to send hugs and sympathy to my friend Janice, whose mom died today… since I believe that it is important to commemorate those we love, I made a piece for Janet in memory of her mom:

I hope it brings her comfort.

Stay Zenspired,

Although I am just getting really started good into this new adventure, I can already see how relaxing the coloring part is and In turn I then become more focused on the scripture, and the meaning of the scripture ! Although I love all three of the extra designs, I think I like the light page the mose. Jesus is the Light Of The World and I can see many uses for these designs !

    4) I prefer the no more than 2 in wide.
    5) I think words and some smaller art would be of great help to me.

  4. Hi — here are my answers to your questions 🙂 .
    1. I am just starting to journal. My prayer group are doing prayer journals. That isn’t on your list but perhaps that won’t
    matter.
    2. Word – 2, Themed – 2, mini-icon – 2
    3. 5, 6, 1, 8, 9, 10, 2. I order of my preferences
    4. I am not sure exactly what you mean by “perforated” so, I will say not perforated
    5. Bonus section — as I am new to journaling, I am not sure what other things you could include but, I look forward to
seeing what the other commenters suggest

Live your site/blog. Now I will be signing up for your emails :).

  6. 1) Recently started Bible journaling!
    2). 1) 3
    2) 3
    3) 2
    3). 3. Ocean, 7. Trees, 8. Butterflies
    4). 3, whichever size
5). Suggestions/hints/recommendations, regarding how you go about journaling. Page prep, tools used (markers, colored pencils ,,etc)

  7. I never even thought about coloring in my Bible before! Makes sense though. I write notes in it, why not add some of the colors God gave us!

  8. Happy Birthday again Joanne, you are truly blessed to have so many loving people in your life that sent beautiful birthday wishes!

I’m so excited Sam is offering both designs as rewards for her Kickstarter. Looking forward to its launch.

    Now for your questions…
    1) No I don’t journal but wish I could get in the habit of doing some type.
    2) I think I’d want the most word pages to color and then mini icons (I know that doesn’t EXACTLY” answer your question.
    3) In no special order I’d like Words, borders and frames, and other graphic elements, music, hearts, and something Judaic added because people may want to journal who are Jewish in a book. I’m not sure if you have anything Judaic in the book but think you should!
    4) Whatever size
    5) Definitely something Judaic for those who would like to to do Spiritual Jouraling that are Jewish.

    ((Hugs))

  12. I am SUPER excited about your Bible journaling book that you have been working on. I can hardly wait until it is done! I currently do some Bible journaling and I’m always on the lookout for others “interpretation” or idea on scriptures. I think a two or three pages of word coloring and the mini icon idea pages would be good and would be really excited with say 5-6 or more of the themed pages. Music themes as well as butterflies and flowers are most appealing to me but sometimes something structural is needed – for example the story of Jesus in the temple with the money changers. But I would be happy with all those on your list for question 3! I vote for perforation 2″ wide. Perfect for book marks too! I think the bonus section would be a great place for uplifting scripture references and various ideas to make them more personal – for someone who needs a particular lift. I’m not explaining this well but like when I person is happy – a themed set of scriptures related to happiness and maybe a suggestion of how to personalize that scripture or remind you of that scripture for easy reference again later. Whatever you do I’m sure it will be great! God bless you in this endeavor!

  13. Good Morning Joanne, when I can make the time I like art journaling. I think 3 pages of the words, 2 pages of themed icon pages and 2 pages for the mini icons seems about right. Having a choice I would choose flowers w/o stems, the elements and words for question three. The perforations should fit the size of the image. I cannot think of anything that should be added in answer to question 5.

  14. Art journal and just beginning Bible journal; equal of options 1 and 2; flowers (all), ocean, words, butterfliec, etc., heart, elements (in order of my preference); not perfed, and lastly, and ideas for color blending.
Thanks so much for the opportunity.

  15. Belated Happy Birthday, Joanne!

  16. I have many thoughts. #1-Art journal. #2-4 pages each words and mini icons WOULD give up a couple pages of each for outline stencils 4-6 inch, that could be a highlighted image over text. #3WORDS are most important, then tree/leaf/bird/musical notations. #4 I would use in margins only, but understand half of stuff might not fit in that catagory. #5 WORDS: Hallelujah, Everlasting, Almighty, Savior, Godspell, Godsend, adore, elation, Father, Father God, God, Lord, comfort, worship, truth, trust, honor, The Light, faith, hope, love, peace, believe, Jesus, Spirit, Holy Spirit, Psalms, Peace unto you, peace be with you, Psalms, rejoice, joy, Holy, exaltation, praise, open heart, bless, blest, Blessed, Lord of lords, Everlasting God/Father, Prince of peace, angel/angels, The Way, The Truth, The Light, glory, beatitude, gladness, holy, heavenly, Grateful, gratitude, Creator, pray, celebrate, peace on Earth, joyful noise, joyful, joyfully, sing, faith, faithful, faithfulness, devotion, prayer, praise, hymn, Bible, Life, calm, harmony, Serenity, inspire, glad, happy….Pax and “peace” in any form!

  17. What has happened to the Calligraphy posts? Are you just too busy at present with book? I hope my name didn’t get dropped from that mailing list.

    1. Hi Monica,
I’m going to go ahead and answer this, because Joanne may not get to your question right away, and i just spoke with her the other night. The book is taking 100% of her time at the moment. But Joanne is close to having it done and when she does, I’m sure the lettering club will be high on her list of priorities. So you haven’t missed anything and I know she appreciates our patience!
Hang tight and we should be hearing about it soon.
      Have a great evening!
      Mary Anne
